It’s been about a week since we moved our newest flock of pastured laying hens out to pasture. It’s been interesting to watch them learn how to “be a chicken” again.
Originally raised as organic layers, they started their egg laying career in small battery cages. When they came home with us it was not uncommon for these ladies to sit down in random places and lay an egg wherever they stood, and to be fair, that was their normal.
Now, weeks later, they have learned how to hunt for bugs, lay eggs in their nesting boxes, and how to get along with each other (for the most part). They’re learning to “chicken” more and more every day!
